Monster Makita

Topics

M. bought some curtains last month, and wanted them installed asap. But when I tried to drill some holes into the wall with my old B&D, the drillhead came out red glowing, with almost no drill hole being made. So I knew I needed some more powerfull stuff. The person in the DIY store almost laughed at me when he heard which drilling machine I used.
So meet monster Makita, a drilling machine the size of half a bazooka. Comes with a 'wall demolition' option, and drills holes into concrete walls as if they were packets of soft butter. And it even comes with a little LED illuminating the spot were to drill.

Animal farm

Topics

Our neighbours are on holiday, and left us with the important task of taking care of their animals. That is : including three sheeps, a dog and 4 chickens. Not all that difficult, except that some of the chickens prefer to take a trip around the neighbourhood. I really don't know how those hens manage to break out from their fenced home, but they sure like to take a holiday themselves.

An advantage of this all is that we may keep the hens eggs, which means that we have some 11 eggs lying around in the fridge. Time to make a giant cake, I guess...

Brown

Topics

A new month, so new colored lenses. This month, I'm wearing the brown set, called 'Honey'. Much nicer than the green ones, as brown is more the natural color of my eyes. The lenses are more prominent, this time. I still wonder why colored lenses allways are traditionally colored, eg like the natural eye colors. Why no red, yellow, orange or even black lenses (would look great on new wave parties). Maybe because no person would buy them ? I certainly would.

Beleuvenissen 2005

Topics

Beleuvenissen 2005 has started; this well-known formula is organized every Friday evening in Leuven, featuring some lesser known artists in several categories per week (Folk, tropical, ...). Last Friday we visited the Folk rather by coincidence, I must admit. As usual with Beleuvenissen, the bands are mostly underground, though I recognised immediately the headliner of Folk : Lais. I was surprised to find them rather good, as they remind me somehow of the Mediaeval Baebes, though Lais sounds less er... mediaeval ?

Green

Topics

I gave up carrying spectacles some 14 years ago. I never want to return to those times, since I'm quite comfortable wearing lenses. I have allways worn slightly colored lenses, especially blue ones. But since last week, I have chosen for the Freshlook pack, which contains three brightly colored lenses, which can be worn during one month. So for the first month, I have chosen the green color. It's a subtle change, but especially in bright white light, the effect is remarkable.

Meerdaalwoud

Topics

Last Sunday promised to be a very hot day, so we decided to get up with the first sunrays, and spent the cool morning in the Meerdaal Forest, located south of Leuven. But even in the forest, the temperatures were quickly rising, and a one-hour walk soon became quite an effort.

But that didn't bothered Farouk, our dog : happily jumping in every mud pool to cool off. At a moment, I wished -covered in sweat- that I could do the same. Luckily, I'm a restraining kind of guy ;)

Alanis

Topics

It has been a while since we frequented a gig, but the last weekend we picked up another concert in Vorst Nationaal : Alanis Morissette. She's a favourite singer of M., so I didn't hesitated to buy us some tickets. The concert was great, good music, though I'm not that familiar with Alanis' music. Sure, I know the greatest hits when I hear them, but don't ask me to cite the record and song title.

Vorst Nationaal has an ambiguous reputation when it comes to concerts ; the acoustics aren't allways the best, but the PA in the Alanis concert was quite enjoyable.
