The Deep Sea
How deep is the sea ? Very. There have been more people to the moon than in the depths of our oceans.

The Russian volcano that erupted directly beneath the International Space Station on June 12th is now causing beautiful lavender sunsets across parts of the northern USA and Europe. A plume of ash and sulfur dioxide from the Sarychev Peak eruption is circulating through the stratosphere, and when parts of the plume pass over an area at sunset, the sky can be seen filled with delicate white ripples, sometimes-colorful streamers, and a telltale hue of purple.
I received a coupon as a christmas present last year, which lets me choose a picture to be printed out on canvas. I got the idea to build a collage from several landscape panorama's at 4 moments throughout the year. The result is an impressive view at the change of the local nature during the different seasons. Today uploaded to Flickr, tomorrow in my living room.
Measuring the damage after the hurricane Ike passage is a shocking photo essay of one of the largests (in size) hurricanes ever.
Feeling down by the bad weather ? Do you hate the gray clouds in the sky ? Head over the the Cloud Appreciation Society (check out the cloud gallery), and discover the joy of cloudspotting; a dog ! An angel ! Popeye in the sky !
Since years, bees in the US are mysteriously disappearing. The same effect is now showing clearly in Europe too, especially in Britain. Some scientists have discovered that mobile phone communication might be responsible for this decline in insect life.
Google, who gets about 200 million queries a day, allways displays a white background with their famous colored logo. As an all white web page uses about 74 watts to display, switching to a black Google could save quite some energy, as someone calculated, up to 3000 MegaWatts per year.
However, though this might be true for CRT screens, for LCD screens the situation seems different : LCD crystals need an electrical field to turn them black (or rather, block the backlight).
OTOH, here's another idea. Turn off the computer. Or is that blasphemy ?
